Score summary
How to create a score summary and what it can be used for.
There are many reasons to add up results from several competitions. Maybe there is a leading rider award, a cup where certain competitions count, a club championship where the competitions carry different weight, or a regional championship ridden over two rounds.
Create a score summary
A score summary is a competition with its own settings. To create one, go to Competitions and choose File, New competition, Score summary.
Just like any other competition or list it needs a number and a name under the General tab. Then go to the Score summary tab, where all the settings are.

Choose who the points are counted for. Rider, horse, or both for the combination of rider and horse. At least one must be selected. With only rider, the rider's results count no matter which horse. With only horse, the points follow the horse.

If only the best result counts and a rider has several horses in a competition, the lower placed horses are skipped when the points are awarded. With this setting on, the placings after them move up. Example: first place gives 10 points, second place 9 and so on. If the same rider takes both first and second place, the rider in third place gets 9 points instead. With the setting off, third place gives 8 points as usual.

Tick the box if only the best results should count, and enter how many. With 1, only the best result counts when the same rider or combination starts several times in a competition. Together with the Group column, described below, you can also count for example the best two results across three qualifiers.

Filter
If the show has custom checkbox fields, created under File, Show settings, Custom fields, you can filter which combinations are included in the summary. Only those with the field ticked count. The fields can be on the start, the rider or the horse. If you tick several fields of the same kind, one of them is enough. Fields of different kinds must all match.
The ticking itself is done in the start list of the ordinary competitions. Show the columns with the field selector under Tools.

Result in each competition
Reads a value straight from the result in each competition and adds them up. This method used to be called Percent. In dressage the value is the rider's percent, which is how a dressage championship over several rounds is counted. Which value is read is chosen per competition in the Source column, described further down. A dressage competition offers the percent. A working equitation competition also offers the single trials: WE Dressage %, WE EoH %, WE Dressage + EoH % and WE Speed time. The third one adds dressage and ease of handling per combination, handy when the rules put a coefficient on the sum of the two trials. An eventing competition offers Total penalty, the same number the result list is sorted on.

When the lowest value wins, like WE Speed time or Total penalty in eventing, every competition the combination did not start in gets the points for Did not start, often 999, and they add up in the total. Put the competitions in the same group and tick Number of best results in each competition/group. Then only the best results count for each combination, and the 999s from competitions that were not ridden stay out of the total.

Rank

Order
Choose whether the list is sorted in ascending or descending order by the points. When you change method or pick a source, a fitting order is suggested, together with the points for Did not complete and Did not start. Percent and points give descending order. Rank, a time and total penalty give ascending, with 999 in Did not start so that a missing result ends up last. You are free to change the suggestion.

The points given to combinations that did not complete the competition, that is eliminated or retired. If you leave the field blank, the result still counts as long as there is one. A working equitation combination eliminated in speed keeps its ease of handling percent with the source WE EoH %, for example. If there is no result at all, the points for Did not start are used. If you fill in the field, eliminated and retired combinations always get that score instead, so you can tell them apart from those who never started. Enter 0, for example, and a competition that was not completed gives 0 points.
The source WE Dressage + EoH % needs both trials completed. If one of them is missing, the competition counts as not started, or as Did not complete if that is filled in.

At the bottom under Competition you add the competitions that should be included. Type to search, or click the field to see the whole list. You can also pick a single section of a competition. Change the order by dragging the handle to the left of the row.

Group
Competitions with the same value in Group count as one competition when the number of best results is counted. Give three qualifiers the same group number to count the best two results across all three.

Three examples
A regional dressage championship ridden over two rounds. The method is Result in each competition with the source Percent in both competitions, so the percent from round 1 and round 2 are added up. The filter Senior means only riders with that checkbox are included.
A club championship for juniors where everyone rides at their own level. The three competitions are in group 1 and the number of best results is 1, so only the best result counts for each combination. Each competition has its own coefficient the percent is multiplied by, so a harder competition carries more weight.
A leading rider award with the method Points, where first place gives 10 points, second place 8 and so on. Only Rider is selected, so the points follow the rider no matter which horse. The number of best results is 1, so a rider with two horses in the same competition only gets points for the better placed one, and with Recalculate rank the placings after the second horse move up.
Show the standings
Go to the start list and the new competition. Click the rosette in the top right corner to open the result view. There you see the results per competition and the total.
The combination in seventh place never started in round 1 and gets the points for Did not start in that column, here 0.
When only the best results count, the results that are left out are shown in grey, and the same is shown online.
The summary is recalculated as soon as a result changes in any of the connected competitions. You can also force a recalculation by opening the competition settings and saving.
If you withdraw a combination in the start list of the summary, it is left out of the calculation. That is handy when a combination does not meet a requirement the system does not know about, like an approved speed round.
The score summary can be published to online.equipe.com just like any other competition, and it can also be used as the basis for a team competition.
