Working Equitation in Equipe has been rebuilt from the ground up. Dressage, ease of handling and speed are now three separate tests. Each one has its own tab in the result registration, its own judges, its own live scores and its own result list, with a total on top that follows the competition ride by ride.
The honest background: when we first built Working Equitation we did not know the discipline well enough, and we squeezed all three tests into one big marking sheet. It worked, but the seams showed more with every show. Ease of handling scores reached online in one lump instead of mark by mark. A competition with dressage did not show as running online until the first rider had finished every test. Both judges' names were printed on both protocols. Every fix we bolted on made the next one harder.
Since then a few hundred Working Equitation shows have run on Equipe, and the wishes from organizers kept pointing in the same direction. So we tore the old model out and rebuilt it the way the sport is actually ridden.
One tab per test
Each test is sorted on its own result, approved on its own and locked per judge and test. The scores are calculated and sent to online the moment they are saved, no matter which test is running, and the marks stream point by point while the judge is judging.
Speed is a real jumping round
Speed is entered like a jumping competition: ride time, penalty seconds and the ring bonus. Knocked fence parts add seconds, the bonus is deducted and the list sorts on the total time. Timekeeping works the same way as in jumping.
Ease of handling and speed in one go
At most shows a combination rides ease of handling and speed back to back without leaving the arena. The setting Enter speed with ease of handling puts the speed fields at the bottom of the ease of handling sheet, so the judge's secretary enters both tests without switching views. It is on by default on new competitions.
The total follows along
The Total tab counts the placing points per test and recalculates the standing on every save, based on the latest ridden test, just like eventing. The speaker blocks at the top show the previous combination, the one on course and the next in line. When the lead changes hands, the speaker sees it the moment the score is saved.

The competition shows as running as soon as the first result comes in, in any test. The result list shows percent and placing points per test together with the total, and clicking a combination opens a filled in marking sheet for each test. Nobody waits for a spreadsheet after the last ride anymore. The prize ceremony can start when the last horse leaves the arena.
A long list of details came along
- Judges per test. Several judges can share the same letter, and you pick which test each person judges. Names, signatures, printed sheets and the judge side registration follow the choice.
- Protocols per test. Printed sheets carry only the test's own judges, the judge handover contains one sheet per test and combination, and the rider's email collects all tests in one document. The sheets are titled after the competition, not the dressage test.
- Judge comparison sheets, per judged test.
- Statuses per test. The tests are independent in Working Equitation, so a combination eliminated in ease of handling still starts the speed. The eliminated test gives 0 placing points and the others are untouched. The classic codes work too: 999 in the penalty field is eliminated, 666 retired, 555 did not start.
- Competitions without dressage are fully supported. Ease of handling only, or ease of handling and speed, print and publish like any other competition. Just leave the judgement empty.
- A Working Equitation competition no longer splits into empty category sections when a horse withdraws, so no more leftover 0-sections in the schedule or in the secretary view.
- Placing points are whole numbers everywhere now, on paper and online. 10, not 10.0.
Team results are counted per test since earlier this month, and score summaries can read a single test for championships and club cups.
